Introducing myself!

I'm glad to have found fishlore and hope to have healthier, happier fish for it! A friend gave me their 55 gallon tank when they moved about a year ago. Despite trying to get a crash course in general fish-keeping I have made a lot of mistakes.

I found this site while looking for help for my two new pink gouramis who won't eat ANYTHING. I'll try to find the appropriate place here on the forum to post all the info and hopefully get some help for these beautiful fish.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning lots!
Best!

I have not had any success with gouramis so I quit. Sorry that I cannot help with that. What you could do is post us all the info of you tank and the water parameters - I'm sure one of the other members will be able to help

Thank you all for a warm welcome!!

Yes, the pink gouramis are kissing gouramis. They look to both be female and are pretty shy. They do come out to swim despite the five frenetic giant danios darting back and forth. When I feed them (I've tried flakes, blood worms, peas, romaine) the gouramis will let the food float right past them. I do notice them poking through the gravel and nibbling on the sides of the tank. Flakes usually don't get a chance to hit the bottom of the tank. Could they be getting enough food from their scavenging?

The tank is 55 gallons kept about 76 F. ammonia levels are fine. pH is 7.6 and don't have testing for nitrate/nitrite. Weekly 15% water changes. Tankmates are the aforementioned five danios, one tiger barb and a common pleco.

first off welcome to fishlore! i would like to let you know that tiger barbs are schooling fish and should be kept in groups no smaller than 5. also tiger barbs are fin nippers so be carful when keeping them with fish that have long fins or tails.

happy fish keeping

Midnight Wolf: Thanks for your welcome! Perhaps you can advise me on my tiger barb situation. I did have a group of them and this one is the last of the group. I would like to introduce more to the tank but am concerned about two things: 1) the larger fish going to town on the smaller barbs that will be coming in. 2) overcrowding Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

for your first question as long as your barbs cant easily fit in the mouth of your largest fish you should be fine. second what kind of pleco do you have because if it is the common pleco your tank is already overcrowded because they need alot of space.
