I've yet to introduce myself

I'm Joseph Durnal from Frederick Maryland. 31 years old, married with four children, the youngest being a girl and three boys, but the oldest is only with us on weekends and holidays.

I mentioned in my first question that I had been talking about getting back into the fish hobby for a year or so before, but hadn't acted, until I received a 60 gallon aquarium with most of the required accessories as a birthday gift from my wife. I had kept an aquarium from about age 13 on, starting with a ten gallon, then moving to a thirty gallon after a few years. The thirty gallon tank ran for years and years with some of the original fish. After I moved out, I left the tank and wasn’t able to keep up with the maintenance, eventually telling my parents to give it all away.

My other hobbies are amateur "ham" radio and model rocketry, although it has been a while since I've actually launched a rocket, but I'm on the radio quite often.

Hi Joseph welcome to Fish Lore and back to fish keeping
It sounds like you have interesting hobbies and a supportive wife. Does she enjoy fish also?

As a side note, this is a public forum and easily accessed through search engines. For your privacy, you may want to consider requesting a new user name and editing your post to remove your last name.

Other than collecting children, which my wife and I are often accused of (having 4 isn't that weird is it? oh, and we don't hesitate to have our nephew for the weekend), we don't really share hobbies, but we are both getting involved as cub scout leaders, so, maybe that is another thing we share. She does look forward to enjoying the fish as a spectator though. She enjoys reading and scrapbooking.

I'm Ok with my last name being on the internet my online identity is the same as my real life identity!

I was a girl scout leader for many years and enjoyed it so much. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun.

Welcome Joseph, Your story is kinda look like mine. I always had aquariums when i was living in Puerto Rico but I got married and moved out and then join the NAVY and now I'm back to the aquarium world and I started with a 50gal and now I have a 50, 55, 10, and a 3 gal. Soon will have a 120 but not sure if going to use it for my snakes or fish. Well welcome again.
Good luck.

Another fish keeping ham (I'm NE3R btw)! The 2nd I've met so far. While chatting on the commute home yesterday I found that one of the guys on the VE team that gave me my extra exam has been raising fish for 50 years! I'm sure that we'll have plenty to talk about.

I've read a good bit of the forum over the last week or so and I'm impressed. It seems like some folks come and go, but there is a good core group of folks that really know what they are talking about and are always quick to give the right advice. I'll call them the fish elmers (for those that don't know, an elmer is often how ham radio operators refer to mentors, and no, I have no idea of the origin of the term).
