Hello all,

It all started back in November. For months we talked about upgrading to a bigger fish tank. We had a 29gal and we wanted a 150gal+. My neighbor was getting rid of their tank, so we purchased the tank from them. It was only $100 for the tank (150 gallon) and cabinet stand and they helped bring it into the house.

November and first day at the house as you can see it needed to be cleaned.

Okay so where it was originally placed at was a bit to crowded for the hall way so we moved it to the center of a wall in our living room. I bought a Rena Canister Filtration system, got a background, bought about 60lbs of slate/rock and stacked it up, 60lbs of sand and filled it up about a 1/4 way with water.

Got 3 fake plants, filled it up with water, got the 2 stage lighting system with the lunar lights.

Had to re-arrange the plants and cut one down because of the (2) Crabs we got, one was almost out of the tank. The little guy swung off the plant on the filtration tube and heater and climbed up. At this time we also transfered our fish from the 29gal tank into this tank and purchased a few more fish.

We had a problem with our Jack Dempsey cichlid attacking the other fish so we had to trade him in. Because of him I had to redo the tank since he kept hiding while I was trying to catch him and I had to move all the rocks. We then added more fish to the tank and added more slate/rock and marble. So by now I would say there's about 80+ lbs of rock alone.

Last round of rocks we added some lava rocks. This is the finished product and as it sits today.

Oh and now my Convict pair had baby fry just on Tuesday. So any input on the baby fry would help. This is our first time with the baby fry.

Beautiful tank! I keep saying I want another one, but I have no room.
Jewels are gorgeous, I had one - but had to trade him in. He was getting beat on.
Would love to see some pics of yours.

Great deal on the tank. I like the pics you posted showing the progress, it looks good.
I'm sorry I can't advise you on the fry but I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

Good luck!

Hey there? Mind if i put my two cents in on how you can make the tank look even more awesome?

You have ALOT more space in that tank for aquascaping, so why not use it? Take a drive to a local river, and look for rounded rocks like the ones you have in there, take as much as you can, wash them thoroughly, and place them in your tank.

If you keep it random, as in varying heights and trying to not make it uniform, it comes into a natural looking, beautiful tank, maybe something similar to this.

Your tank diffidently has the potential to become something like that, my suggestion would be more rocks, and a few more small plants for like a front viewing area, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, decorate the tank how ever YOU think looks good, im just giving my opinion

Hi, very nice looking tank and good deal!

Is the tank cycled now? You didn't say anything about cycling the tank and I noticed you put no for knowing about the nitrogen cycle.

The tank was up for over a month before any of the fish were put in.
