Hi All! 18 degrees here I think I'll join the fish!

Hello Everyone!
What a great place you all have here! I was surfing the net trying to figure out how to sex my Mollies. I have had my aquariums for just about a year now. After all this time with my brood of Mollies just yesterday I awoke to a tank full of tiny little babies! I have Sailfin, Lyretail Mollies and I just assumed that they were all the same sex after all this time. Anyway, just wanted to say "Hey". It is 18 degrees outside up here in Wisconsin, the men are out deer hunting on opening day, and I am seriously considering joining my Mollies in there nice heated tank!!

Hello Addey and welcome to fishlore.
brrr is right! Outside we have ocean affect snow happening which is very rare here on Cape Cod at this time of year. We usually do not see any snow for at least another month and at best, it melts after a day on the ground.
I hear ya on the warm fish tanks! Its so cold in the house, trying to conserve oil and when I open the tanks to feed them I get a blast of warm air... ahhhh it does feel good!

Hello! I see you have green spotted puffers! Puffers are my passion! I expect pics of them shortly, lol.
I don't know if you've found the answer to your molly question yet... but the males will have a rod-like anal fin called a gonopodium, and the females will be a bit chunkier and have rounded anal fins.
May I ask what kind of pleco you have? Most of them are actually intolerant of salt, and will not do well in your brackish aquarium (if it is indeed in your brackish and I am not mistaken)
Glad you joined!

Wow! Chilly. It was 18 degrees here in south PA this morning, but has now warmed up to a blistering 28.

Welcome!

Welcome to Fish Lore! Man 18 that sure is cold I wouldn't last long up there in Wisconsin without complaining about how cold it was. I'm a summer girl myself. I would like to move to sunshine state if it wasn't for family. Good luck with your new little babies. Love to see pictures of the little guys.

Welcome! I raise some live-bearers myself, but they are guppies... At any rate, hope you feel welcome! I would love to see your brackish set-up. I have an empty 29 and no clue what to do with it...

An empty 29 obviously means time for a green spotted puffer!

Welcome to Fishlore Addey.

I experience the same as you but from the opposite end: Sometimes I wish I could jump into chiller-cooled Rainbowfish tank -steady at 77F- due to year-round high temperatures -say 86F in shadow, even at midnite- combined with high humidity.

Thinking about your 18F: I guess my heart would stop beating before going that low! BRRRR!

Welcome, Addey! We're glad to have you. Congratulations on your molly fry!

I'm sure I've misread your aquarium info- I can't imagine a tank over a year old would have nitrites at 20!

Welcome from a nice warm 32'C South Africa! 89F!

My boy friend got 2 female dalmatian mollies... and 3 months after having them we suddenly had babies! mystery! some say they can store sperm, other say they can change sex in a single sex environment - honestly I DON'T KNOW! I have not had time to do research on this yet...

Be careful of pinkfpuffer... she will hypnotize you and make you buy a hundred and one puffers! She is dangerous!! LOL!! Just kidding! She is the best - crazy chick!

Welcome! You gonna love it here
