| Hi deobn, if I haven't said it before, welcome to Fish Lore
Before you decide to add more fish, let's see if we can figure out why your algea eater have red spots. If they're ill, you won't want other fish exposed to it.
It would help to know what your readings are for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.
What kind of algea eaters are they?
Your aquarium info is different than your post, you only have the tetras and algea eaters now?
Sorry for all the questions, the answers will help the members help you. |

| I'm sorry, I'm not sure what the red dots are.
Just a couple guesses until someone with more knowledge comes along and can help further.
On some fish they could be burst capillaries.
They could be getting picked on by the angels or even the neons.
It could be a sign that your water parameters are off.
Do you know what your water parameters are? Without knowing these, water conditions can't be ruled out.
Common plecos get huge (they never rarely tell you that at the store) and should be kept in a 55g.
I'd start with a good water change, it rarely hurts. If you use Prime as your water condition, that'll detoxify any ammonia for 24 hrs. |

| Welcome to the forum.
Does your pleco try to jump out of the aquarium? If it has it could be Copper poisoning. It is burning the plecos skin. If the Copper is high do a water change ASAP. Good luck. |

| Jumping can be caused by many things, not just copper... it could also be caused by poor water quality, parasites, or stress. Copper would only be an issue if its known to be present in your source water, or if you have added it to the tank. If you have a test kit and could tell us the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels then we could possibly rule out water problems. However, red dots are often a sign of ammonia or nitrite poisoning... as both of these cause oxygen deficiencies in the fish. |

I was in a hurry. I should have went into more detail...

Have you tested your water for Copper,Nitrite,Nitrate and ammonia? If you haven't you need to. The liquid kits by API (Aquarium Pharmaceutical) are the ones I use. Have you added anything different to the aquarium or have you added any medication to the water? Is there anyway you could put a picture up for us. Does the body have anything else wrong with it besides the red dots? |
