I just bought 2 mollies. A balloon and a gold dust. I am new to this and did not know about mollies being tatooed. I purchased one because of the pretty stripes , not knowing it was not normal. I will love and care for them and hope it will be ok. My question is about Mollie babies. I went to feed them this morning and discovered a baby in the tank. Only one little black one. Should there be more ? Is it possible there was only one ? I moved it out of the tank until i can run to town and pick up a separator for the tank. afraid it might get eaten

She may still be dropping fry, or the mollies may have eatten some of them. There should be more than 1 fry, yes, but some, or all, of them may have been eatten.

Livebearers (mollies, guppies, platies, swordtails) tend to eat their fry.

Welcome to Fishlore!

It's really sad that people continue the practice of tattooing. New fish owners shouldn't even have to worry about stuff like that. It's not your fault. I didn't know, when I started, that my little fluorescent fish was actually a glassfish with a dot of dye injected.

Welcome, and good luck with your new baby. I know when our molly had fry she had about 15, but we only saved about 10. We only found a few at a time, though, so maybe you have more hiding...but like Chief said some have more than likely been eaten.

Welcome to Fishlore.

There could be other fry hiding in the plants, decor or even the substrate. You can expect her to drop fry about every 25-28 days for a little while.
