Hi everyone!

Hello Everyone, My name is Kyle. I am a 20 year old living in Indiana. Most of you may dislike me right off the bat because... well.... I work at Wal-Mart.. in fact im the Pets Department Manager at my Wal-Mart. I was just promoted to the position about 3 weeks ago. BUT... Im a good employee, because I actually found this website because I wanted to be more knowledgeable about the fish I have in my store.. ... Anyways I am glad to be here and hope to help/get help others members of the site. I would rate my fish keeping experience as Intermediate. I picked up most of my knowledge just by keeping my own fish tanks. Speaking of my own tanks, I currently have 3. I have a 20 gallon artificial planted tank with 5 Red Glass Barbs, 2 Cherry barbs (had 3 but actually lost one today), 2 Algae Eaters (not plecos, algae eaters!) lol, and 1 beautiful Female Betta named Sprite. lol I know not a typical name for a female betta but ill explain it in a moment. I also have a 10 gallon planted tank housing 2 small Angelfish, which will eventually be moved to my mothers 55 gallon tank. I also have another 10 gallon planted tank with my Male betta named Pepsi. lol... soo now back to the names Pepsi and Sprite... lol well I had Pepsi in his tank when I first got him but I could not think of a good name... so I was sitting there drinking a pepsi thinking... then I realized that my betta was the same color of a pepsi can.. lol.. he has a black head with a royal blue body and blue/red tail.. lol so thats how Pepsi came about... My female is the exact same way as well... lol she has a black head and a beautiful blue/green body... like the color of a sprite can...Also as a side note I did have an awesome Oscar whe I was a teenager. He was amazing.. 9 inches! But My family went on Vacation and the guy who was supposed to feed our cats and him.. didnt feed him.. he was dead when we got back.. anyways... im happy to be on Fish lore and hope you all can accept me..!!...

P.S. I want to apologize for all the Wal-Mart employees who have no Idea what that are talking about.

Hi ktanner2553 Welcome to Fish Lore.

I'll forgive you if you aren't the manger of this Walmart Pet Dept:
I didn't save a betta tonight :-(
If you are, why haven't you returned my calls?

Sorry, just joking, it's actually refreshing to know that somewhere there's a walmart whose employee knows and cares about fish.

You'll love the forum, we're glad to have you.

Welcome to Fishlore.

Glad to have you here. It's great to see someone caring for fish at Wal-mart. Like deathco & petsmart, we know a lot of the problem is corporate policy. I bet you've got the nicest fish department in the chain.

Id like to think i have the nicest... the unfortunate thing is we arent allowed to add any plants or gravel to the tanks.. wish we could to make the fish feel more secure and not as stressed... but I do normally add stress coat to the tanks eat day I work..

Congratulations for coming here and putting yourself out there and wanting to learn more about fish and hear from some of the fish hobbyists.

That took GUTS!!!

i hope you like the site and learn alot and help influence the care of fish from the big chains.

while i prefer the smaller, LFS, i think in some rural areas, Walmart is the only store in town, so if you can responsibly care for your charges and educate the community, YEAH for you!!!

Welcome!!!

Funny, the Wal-Mart near me has sooo many plants & soooo much gravel in each tank that you can barely see the fish. And plus it's all black with algae - they have a lot of happy plecs & snails though.

The walmart near me is fairly reasonable for gravel, plants and decorations. But they do over crowd the poor guys though. I feel sorry for them when they have no where to swim.

Welcome!! So glad to see that someone working for "the Man" actually cares about the little creatures whose lives are in their hands. KUDOS for educating yourself, and so glad you found this site! It's been the best reference for me as a fishkeeper yet.

Sprite is such a cute name for a girl betta... I'm jealous I didn't think of it myself!
