Hello from S. Connecticut

Hi all!

I'm more of a Beta fish collector. They are addicting. My daughter brought home some comets and plain goldfish about 1 1/2 yrs ago. Then I bought the 46 gal tank and two orandas to go.

Then the problem came!
I use to work for petsmart and a customer dropped off a Pangasius cat in a bucket. It was put into a 20 gal dirty sick tank. One of the employees kept poking it's head (petting it!). I was ignorant and brought it home. I figured my 46 gal clean goldfish tank would be a step up for it. Of course I was thinking it would only get 12 inches long because that is what the sign on petsmarts tank of cats says.
Then I researched on the internet.
Who has a tank that big?
I tried Bronx zoo, Maritime Aquarium, NY Aquarium, Brooklyn Aq Society, and postings all over. This fish is so pretty, but....I named him Spookie.
He is probably already close to 12 inches. I have to break down the tank and find a home for all in preparation of a move, but what do I do with Spookie. Any ideas?

Linda

Hi Linda, Welcome to Fish Lore

How nice of you to rescue Spookie. I'm sorry, I can't help you, but I did want to welcome you to the forum.

Good luck finding homes for your fin babies.

I would be leery shipping a fish that large.
You may want to try craigslist or another online classifieds.

If she checked the Bronx zoo, Maritime Aquarium, NY Aquarium and the Brooklyn Aq Society, she's in New York, not close to him.

I wish the aquariums would help her out.

I'm in CT, but close to NY. I would travel to deliver anywhere from PA to Maine if it would find this guy a home. YES, Petsmart has them and lists them as a 12" maximum size. Petstores realy shouldn't sell something this big. Not fair to the fish who will end up dead.

Hi Linda,
Welcome to fishlore! I am so sorry to hear about Spooky. You did a good thing for giving him a home for as long as you could. I hope that you can figure out a place for him to go.
