Fed up With Fish

Two months ago I bought a 2.5 Gal tank and under the "supervision" of a chain pet store I purchased 3 mollies.Within several days 2 fish died, and were replaced under the warranty of the pet store. The about a month later the rest of the fish died. They tested the water and said everything was fine. Well last week I went back to the pet store and told them what size my tank was and that I did not have a heater nor did I really want to buy one. I was recommended tetras and given 2 to take home. Before I put the fish in I cleaned the tank, changed filter cartridges and used bottled water.Within a few days I noticed my fish are acting sluggish and I'm afraid they are going to die. I was informed that I would need a heater and bought 2 types of water test strips and once again everything is fine.My fish are not eating much or sometimes even at all. I went to a different pet store who specializes on fish and was told that the not eating is normal due to stress, and that I need a min of 6 tetras of the same kind, because they swim in groups. My tank is not big enough for 6 tetras and I really cannot afford a new tank. I have no idea what to do , I cant keep killing fish, but the temp is good, water quality is good, but they are still not acting right. Can someone please help!!!

Re: Fed up With Fish

Before you buy any more fish read these articles and find out all the things your fish store isn't telling you. http://www.fishlore.com/Forum/index.php?topic=620.0
Sounds like they just want to sell you fish and don't care whether they live or not.
a 2.5 gallon tank isn't really big enough for fish, maybe a couple of shrimp.
Sorry you've had such a horrible introduction to fish keeping, it can be a wonderful hobby.
Welcome to FishLore!! We will help anyway we can.

Re: Fed up With Fish

Sorry about your expierence. I had something similar to that, except without the fish death. I had smelly tank water and I kept getting pratically yelled at to make it stop and I didn't know what to do. Best thing is to return the fish and get a few shrimp or even a african dwarf frog or two. Best thing to do is listen to Butterfly and Gunnie, they know there stuff more than anybody here.

and...

Welcom to Fishlore.
