Hi all from Tokyo
Hey gang... Pretty active site you have going here so I thought I would sing on and join in the fun.
Im Australian, living and working here in Tokyo. About 8 weeks ago I inherited a tank, off the top of my head (Im in the metric world), about 18 gallons (anyone got the formula for the calculation of tank size to gallons?). Anyway set her up, by stealing some filter media from a friend who has some association with an aquarium here (media had been running in a spare filter on a huge tank containing 15 full size discus) and threw in four guppies to start with, all good, then added four rummy nose tetras (false rummy nose - brilliant variety), then just last weekend I added four small size angels (of which two will be removed as they grow and pair off).
Been keeping fish for many years, first was a Betta that someone gave me in a tiny glass box? Anyway within a week he was in a smill filtered tank, cant remember size too long ago. I then set up a guppy tank. Hmm they were fun. Had so many dammed babies. I set up a bare tank with a eheim sponge filter and placed a baby tank inside so the guppies could birth then relax for a few days. This tank had a constant flow of young, I always kept a few in to keep the filter running.
Anyway from there, I bought some rummy nose tetras 20 (still a favourite) 5 khuli (spelling) loaches and 20 cardinals all in a 50 gallon tank. Was beautiful everyone loved it. So I sold it to someone :P
From there I bought a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft wow tank. This was stocked with 4 Pseudotropheus Zebra SP., 4 Pseudotropheus Crabro. Yeah not a lot for all that space. I wanted more but wasnt sure what. So two months later I sperated those two colonies into smaller tanks. And bought 10 small size Cichlasoma Bifasciatum. They grew fast... and pretty soon the tank once like a canyon was seeming too small for their personalities. Tank and filter could take them, just the fish were insane. I got rid of four and with the takings bought an established pair of Hartwegis that went in. Hartwegis were new to the tank but a little bigger. The next day I buried the Hartwegis.
Anyway there are a lot more stories and fish, but one day Ill go back to the bifasciatum.... if you ever get them, never put your hand in the tank when fry are present, I have a scar as a reminder. But they are so compelling.
Havent had a tank in five years.. too busy working. So thanks in advance if I ask questions for refreshement.
