Hello from ba-dabing

Hi Everyone,

Just found this section of the Fish Lore forum so wanted to add my intro.

As everyone else says -- This is a great site ! I have read sooo much and have been trying to take it all in ! You guys are a great resource!

I started out with a 10 gallon tank and some sunburst (red Wagtail?) platys for my son. He's a Phoenix Suns fan so I bought the orange platys and did the tank up in purple gravel and plants. That was 3 years ago.

Now the tank is in the family room and I am the primary fish caretaker, lol
I don't mind, they give me something to look at while I'm at the computer (my other hobby).

I recently bought a 20 gallon to move them in to and to add another kind of fish with them (I"m thinking some Corydoras?). The tank is cycling right now and I hope to have it going soon.

The guy at the fish store was trying to convince me to get some puffer fish for the old 10 gallon but I don't have anywhere to put it right now and I don't think I want puffer fish? Aren't they poisonous?

Anyway.. thanks again for all the advice and guidance here. I'm reading everything I can!

Welcome to the site!

Puffers are not poisonous, but they have some mean teeth and are pretty aggresive with tankmates. Very messy too (put out lots of waste).

Thanks for the great welcome !

I just posted in the Beginner's thread my readings in the new 20 gal tank. So hoping to move some fishies in soon.

I think I am starting to catch MTS! I'm already thinking about what to do with the old 10 gallon tank!

Gotta wait a month or so to get more money together because I would need a new power filter for the 10 gal.

My son suggested a "Chess" theme.

So, while I was in the pet store I was thinking --

Black and white gravel
A set of glass chess pieces
3 Indian Glass fish
3 Ghost Catfish

Does anyone know if Glass fish and Ghost catfish would get along?

You shouldn't have a problem since both species do well in a community tank.. if you're going with three of each in your ten gallon tank though, you'll be pushing the limits in terms of overcrowding if using the general one inch of fish per gallon of water rule.. glassfish can get up to almost three inches when mature, so factoring that along with the combined size of 3 ghost catfish, I'd say it's doable as long as you stay on top of your waterchanges and add some vitamins to their feeding regimen.

Thanks for the info, Richard.

Probabaly won't set the tank up for a while but it's good to know they do get along.

Right now I'm working on this 20 gallon tank. It has 3 male red wagtail platys in it and I am going to the LFS tomorrow to get 3 corydoras catfish to add to it. I'm going to keep the corys in the old 10 gallon for a few weeks to make sure they're ok before putting them with the platys.

Any suggestions for a few more fish in the 20 gallon? Maybe I could eventually get those Indian Glass Fish?
