Greeting from a Georgia Newbie...Again

I am a HUGE fan of having an Aquarium from my childhood. (early 1970's) I always loved the Red Velvet Swordtails and Black Mollies. I never knew anything about the "Nitrogen Cycle" until I came across Fishlore.com. Amazing what a little information can do. I always knew that you would loose a few fish the first month, but I always thought it was the pet store. In the 80's, my new wife and I set up another tank for about three years then baby came along and he just took too much time, and so life went on.

Both children are now grown and gone and our family dog of 10 years had died. So the thought struck me to go back to my first love. Fish

I still have the wife and couldn't run her off with a stick Being an old fart has made me a little wiser. I wanted to do a little research first. Thank God I found Fishlore.com. What a great website packed full of tons of information. Thank you for your hard work ( /butt kissing mode off)

Anyway, here I am starting over. 6 days into a new 10 gallon tank with bait fish letting it rest and go through the Nitrogen Cycle. I have one live plant and a couple of sprouts planted and everything looks like it is doing well. Had a cloud "bloom" a couple of days ago but that has cleared up on it's own. Just trying to follow the wise advise I have discovered here.

Attached it a picture of the aquarium stands today with the bait fish. Tips are always welcomed and even abuse on occation.

Thanks

Hi!

Oh... Well, they look like Goldfish bait fish to me. But - he said he's cycling it - so why is there any fish in it at all?!

Because the bait fish were raised to be used to die on the hook anyway, so he is housing them somewhere that benefits him until they are used for their purpose. (Its like a temporary symbiotic relationship... the fish needs a place to stay until it is used for its purpose of being stuck on a hook and he needs something to poo in his water until the bacteria grows.)

Wow, great response guys! Good to see an active forum. I normally just lurk instead of posting, but I did want to say hello. So here goes!

COBettaCouple:

Thank You!!

******************

HatchetHaven:

The are Bait Fish (AKA Feeder Fish) used to feed a larger fish with live food. Got them at the local tropical fish store for 5 for 1 dollar. They do look like goldfish, but I don't think they are. A couple of them are silver. Just needing the poo and they are good at making poo!

*****************

capekate:

Thank you, wanted to start with a 10g then later on upgrade. Just wanted to get my feet wet again so to speak. (Plus Petland had the tank for 99 cents)

****************

sgould:

Thank You

****************

finmama:

Already hooked just taking care of bait fish. I have it set up in my computer room so I can watch them while I am in my "bat cave".

****************

Coryd55:

I am just east of Dalton, about 1-1/2 to 2 hours north of Atlanta. Thanks for the welcome

***************

Butterfly:

Thanks for the welcome! Glad to hear that you are familiar with "Chatsvegas"!

***************

Debbie2:

Glad to be here.

*******************

Thanks everyone and you will be seeing me around.
