New! - South of Seattle...

hello! i actually don't even have a tank set up yet... but i'm making big plans!!! i kept fish a long time ago, and loved it, and now i find myself getting 'lured' back into it.

ofcourse i won't go with as large a tank as i'd REALLY like... but i'm hoping for maybe a 72 bow-front... just gotta convince my better half!

if i can get brave enough, i may try discus, but if i chicken out i'll likely be going with a community tank with angels, a school of glo-fish maybe... a few kuli loaches, maybe a queen arabesque pleco? and who knows what else at this point... maybe even some hatchets? an eel would be neat, but i'd be concerned about aggressiveness... maybe a worm instead?

i also would really be into live plants, lots of them... but don't you disturb them when you vacuum the gravel?

Welcome to fishlore!!!

eels generally arent aggressive.. atleast none ive seen. i own a tire track named Sweetheart so im sure that will prove my point.

have fun with the new tank plans!! remember...bigger is ALWAYS better when it comes to a tank.. be sure to cycle it tho!

oh! and take lots of pictures! everyone loves to see them

HI, SereneReyn, WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

I agree bigger is better. However, everyone has to be happy, and the pocket book considered. Check out craigslist, you might find a hot smoking deal in the Seattle area!

My problem is that one tank just isn't enough. When you want as many things as you do, 3 tanks would be nice! MTS is setting in and you haven't even found the first tank! Glad you have joined this crazy bunch hope you enjoy, and learn a lot!

Welcome to the fish fanatics forum! Since you asked about vac and plants....I have fake plants but still use the vacuum as carefully as I would if they were real. You allow the vac to filter up debris from the gravel by gently moving through the top layer of gravel, just moving it enough. The trick IMO is getting the right type of vac for the tank you will be creating. Good Luck, send us pics, and ask questions if you aren't up to speed from your previous tank keeping times.

my dad kept oscars - made me nurse one (he bought sick) back to health for him too. it became the meanest little bugger in his tank... and... he couldn't have any decorations at all... apparently they didn't like them and would slam larger rocks and things into the glass.

I have a lovely little Queen Arabesque Pleco and I think she is the most delicate and beautiful thing I have ever seen and she is so cute when she is out but one word of caution. She is not an algae eater. She is carnivorous and will not touch anything vegetable or plant like. She will eat the cories food and shrimp pellets and sinking carnivore pellets but no algae or anything that resembles it. She comes as close to looking like a Zebra Pleco as I have found without the huge price tag but is very small. She has only gotten to about 3 inches with her fins and is not showing any further growth for quite some time. I dearly love her but rarely see her as she is a night creature and hides very effectively during the day or when the light is on at all.

Welcome to Fishlore.com. I do hope that you love it here as much as I do.

Welcome to Fishlore SereneReyn

Lots of live plants will be good. Do check out the Aquarium Plants Sticky section too - some very useful info there.
