Hello!

Tanks been up and running for about 3 weeks. Finally have 0 NH3 and nitrite has peaked as my nitrate levels are beginning to rise.

Had fish when I was a kid, and now I've set up this aquarium for my daughter (lol, atleast that's what I told my wife! ).

Like the site... Thanks.

I'll be adding a few shrimp and some sort of algae eater soon.

Not sure what else to add, probably go w/ some nice guppies, but wouldn't mind having 1 or 3 larger fish.

Any recommendations for larger fish that get along w/ neons and guppies?

Well you've got about 16" of fish space to 'play' with (using 1½" as the Neons adult size as that's what most people use ) so with that many Neons, you could go with an Amazon styled theme with possibly the following:

4 Oto's @ 2" (the preferance is 6 of them but 4 will work) [8"]
Male and Female Dwarf Ram cichlid - German Blue or Bolivian @ 3" each [6"]

14" Total

OR

1 Male Dwarf Ram Cichlid @ 3"
3 Female Dwarf Ram Cichlid @ 3" each [9"]
1 Pleco @ 4 - 6" (Gold Nugget - 6"; Candy Stripe - 4")

15" Total with a 6" Pleco (if you got a smaleer Pleco, you could have an extra female Ram

Of course that would rule out the Guppies but the Neons could nip their flowing finnage anyways.

Since you are still cycling, you need to hold off on any more fish for awhile....nitrite are toxic to fish, the "new tank syndrom", that kills so many...you should be doing water changes at least 25% each day till your readings for ammonia AND nitrite are down to 0, with nitrate up to 15 it shouldn't be long. Neons are rather sensetive to water conditions and may not last in these water conditions.

I like the idea of otoes for algae, but another thought would be to add 3 corys to help pick up food off the floor as well. Neither of these should be added though until your readings show the tank is fully cycled. Good Luck
