Introducing myself, saying hello
Hi all. I just took the plunge and joined your forum. Right now I have a 30-gal community tank. We were supposed to go out today and buy our new 75-gal but too much ice here, some now I have to wait until tomorrow.
I'm thinking of the small, gentle cichlids. I love that German blue one.
I'm a mom of 3 kids, husband too. I work at home, medical transcriptionist.
My 30 gallon tank used to be in my office by my desk. Guess what - last week I moved it into den and realize now I want a bigger tank, so I will have to move it again, get it out of the way for new tank. Sheesh. I guess it took moving it to make me realize I want a bigger tank, so . . .
I used to have a silver dollar that I taught (with food) to wiggle his body at me when I waved to him. He was very cool. He lived a long life and died last year. Being that he was in my office with me all day every day working, we became very close. Just last week I was finally able to replace him with a new baby silver dollar.
So, I look forward to hanging out here.
Jodi

 Hi Jodi, WELCOME to FISHLORE!
It's YOUR forum now! Post often (not while you are working ), and I hope you are quick to embrace your MTS....Multiple Tank Syndrom.....
75, are your SURE it is big enough? Rams are lovely, but so are Kribensis cichlids, a person here just posted about theirs having fry! They are lovely, and though they are a little fragile, they are easier to keep than rams have been for me. A pair in a planted 75 with a couple of barbs of some kind would be lovely!
So then where will you put your new 125 gallon tank?

Glad you joined this forum. You will get good advice, which will help you get that bigger tank off to a great start. We love pics, too!

Thank you all for the kind response. And yes, I am already thinking a 125-gallon would be cool, and I'm also patting myself for getting the 75 and not the 55.

MTS ! Our kind of nut! What are you going to stock the 75 with?
If you DO get a 125 be sure to check the floor supports, those are heavy tanks all set up....I have one, and would go up even more if I had the room.

What will I stock my tank with:
Well, I have:
2 black veil angels, just got them and they are doing beautifully.
2 German Rams (name Hanz and Franz). They are too cool. I love them.
Silver dollar, serpae tetra, penguin tetra.
Twig catfish, just got him.
Smlinig acara (his "wife" died, just got them. She was so tiny; I think she just couldn't make the trip).
Severum, who is in the hospital right now, but resting comfortably.
I made the journey to That Pet Place (2+ hours), brought home 7 fish and 1 died, the baby girl Acara. Over the years, whenever I would go to Petsmart or Petco, whether I would bring home 2 fish or 6 fish, I would lose at least 2 or 3. So, no more going there. I guess it's like buying a puppy from a pet shop as opposed to private breeder, just something you don't do.
I really like the dwarf cichlids and am looking at the dwarf pikes, too. I like the curviceps, very cute. Definitely want a nice school.
I can't believe how the Rams play/fight, the way they go head-on, back up. I wonder if that is why they're called rams. I'm just very excited about this. My husband comes home around noon, so as soon as I'm done working we are starting the set up!

Welcome to Fishlore Jodi.. love your choices in fish, but you might want to keep an eye on the interaction between the Angels and Rams.

How are you cycling your new 75?
You have a lovely selection of fish. Several are really hard to keep healthy through the cycle process, and should be kept in a fully cycled tank.
With the Rams, you need one male and one or more females. They can be aggressive if you have two males, this will result in one loosing the "fight". I love them though, one of the most colorful fish in the tank. They also like warm temperatures, so try to keep your tank at the high end of what the other fish can take.
Good Luck!
