Another Noob says Hello!

Hi all!
I've been lurking here for awhile. My eldest son#1 (andy65) has been posting here for awhile and finally talked me into joining so I can post my questions here rather than constantly asking him what he thinks!

Son got his new tank and it has been so much fun learning things with him that son#3 and I have decided to go in together and get us a big tank of our own. Son#1, Son#3 and I have definitely been infected with "fish fever". Son#2 just thinks we're all nuts! LOL!

Anyways, we're thinking about getting either a 40 gallon long or a 45 gallon tall tank. I'm alittle worried that that might be abit much for two newbies to start with? Son#1 says a bigger tank is actually better for beginners to start with.

Welcome to FishLore!! Hobbys are always more fun when shared with others that have the same hobby. give son #2 time he will be infected with MTS(Multiple Tank Syndrome) soon enough
Son#1(which is Andy?) is absolutely correct larger tanks are much easier to keep stable.
any idea what you want to keep yet? This could help determine what size tank you want to buy.
Keep us posted and again Welcome to fishLore!

The larger the better. My first tank (that I got last saturday) is a 55 gallon. Its doing really well and its a nice size. I would suggest that. 40's are really nice to. Depends on what fish you want. Bristlenose plecos are pretty awesome little fish(L107).
and...
WELCOME

welcome to fishlore! You could go as big as you want on a tank. In many ways, they're easier to maintain.

large the tank the better as mentioned. The smaller the tank, the quicker water parameters can spike and effect fish. The more water there is, the more diluted the effects are, sort to say.

Oh, and welcome to FishLore.

WELCOME to FISHLORE Bede!!!

I believe I responded to your question earlier today about a 40 long vs a tall. WELL.....

Now you give a little more info, and with it, I would suggest, as some have already aluded to, THE BIGGER the BETTER!!!!

If you are just starting out, a 55 gallon is really good, really one of the most economical tanks, because they are so widely used, and then you will want to get a 10 gallon for a quarantine tank......

The water conditions are easier to keep stable the larger tank you get, AND the most important thing is it will give you enough room to indulge several fish, where a smaller tank really limits what you can have.

If you have been reading on the forum for awhile, you already know about cycling your tank BEFORE adding fish, and that you should research the fish and not get more for your tank than will adhear to the 1" of adult fish per gallon of tank. That said, the rest is up to you on the kinds of fish you get. Just remember when you are making your decisions, read up on them first, and if it says they do best in a "school", plan that into your scheme and fish inch per gallon. Even 55 inches of fish dissappear very quickly, and will not seem like much when they are small......But quickly enough the tank will be overcrowded if you aren't careful, and the fish getting sick......so I really hope you enjoy this adventure, and I agree It is SO much fun to have something to do with your kids, even when they are grown!!
