Hello, everyone!

I'm 19, a biology college student, and I'm fascinated by ecology and nutrient cycling, which fits well with aquariums.

I've been keeping fish since I was 8. It all started when my sister, brother and I co-bought a male and a female betta. Which then bred and produced hundreds of babies (which were reared in hundreds of quart jars, oh the imagery!). That was quite the adventure!

Since then, I've kept mostly feeder guppies (because I think they look better than fancies...), platys, swordtails, danios, dwarf gouramis, and I'm beginning with ram cichlids.

I went through a brief period of not having fishes when I entered college last year, but this winter break I'm setting up a tank, which will then come with me when I return to college. It will be a 20 gallon planted tank, occupied with a pair of ram cichlids, and either a flock of zebra danios, feeder guppies, or neon tetras.

I probably won't be on here all to frequently, just every once in a while, to ask questions and get advise and opinions.

Welcome to the 'Lore'.. sounds like you'll be able to offer up some pretty good advice with your experience.. 'specially to anybody trying to breed Bettas.

Lol, you'd think so, but it isn't true! Hate to admit it, but that was a freak accident! We had him in a 1 gallon hexagonal, dumped her in, and they spawned! I'd like to think that I know better now, and I sure don't think I'd advise anyone to try breeding bettas in a gallon!
But it just goes to show that anythings possible.

Welcome!!!

Great to see another biologist on site!

I remember sneaking extra 10 gallon tanks into my apartment when I was in college.

I am looking forward to posting with you.

Clark welcome to Fishlore, we have people of all ages and experience levels from all over the world. One tank will lead to another then another... oh the MTS(Multiple Tank syndrome) is contagious and we all (here) have it

Welcome to Fishlore

You'll enjoy it here. I just got my first tank(55G) yesterday. I finally made it look nice(in my opinion) with the addition of some driftwood. It currently houses 2 BN Plecos(m and f), some cherry shrimp, and some MTS(malaysian trumpet snails). I am getting Cherry Barbs, Kuhli Loaches, and a Angel Pair in the future.

Oh, my sister had kuhli loaches! They certainly are very funny!

Yeah, I think that this will be fun! I just can't wait until I'm done with finals and can go home and work with my tank(s). It's funny, in the past month it's morphed from a ten gallon, to a fifteen, to a twenty gallon + ten gallon for growing plants! @@

Yea, funny how MTS causes your tanks to multiply.
