I Put the gourmi in the tank with him yesterday and they both seem to be getting along im keeping a close watch. IN my small tank there is a decent sized living plant in the tank and an air pump. No filter but i change the water often. My small Aquarium will have to last me till christmas when i purchase a 25 gallon tank I cant wait to meet you all and talk about these beautiful fishy creatures.

Hello Metal_fish and welcome!

I also have to agree with everyone else, that your betta and dwarf gourami are not a good mix. I had dwarf gouramis in with a male betta myself and saw the aggression start and had to separate them. These two are notorious for fighting and not getting along. If your two are getting along right now its most likely due to the fact that they are new and are only getting adjusted to their new surroundings. Once they get adjusted the aggression will start no doubt. I had a 2.5 g tank too, but housed a female betta in it, as they are much smaller than the males. I have since traded for a larger tank for them. I see by your siggie that you have a male CT. He is beautiful.

My advice would be either find someone to house your gourami as Jack mentioned or return the gourami asap til you find another tank. If you were to maintain water changes at least every other day you can probably get away without a filter, but its not really recommended, plus you would have to clean the debris off the gravel floor. For that small a tank, you can find a very small filter like the azoo palm filter (or others have used the whisper as well )for around ten dollars. It would not take up much room at all and your fish would benefit from it. You dont mention a heater in there either, and you really do need to provide heat for these tropical fish.
Tropical fish need the basics, a good size tank, clean water, filter and heaters and a balanced diet.
You will find a lot of helpful advice here on the forum with folks who have the experience to share happily!
