Hi All,

I am completely new to the aquarium hobby. I am currently in the process of researching for a 50-55 gallon FOWLR tank. I am planning on having it as a Christmas present for myself. I am doing tons of research on the setup, materials, maintenance, etc. If anyone has some advice feel free to give me a holler!!!

Hello there Davb, you have definitely come to the right place for help.
I started out as you are , researching a year ago this month, i have had 95% of my help from here and rest from my VERY GOOD local fish store that started me off with my first tank.
One year on i have 5 tanks and plans for more!!

This really is a great site, you get a quick response to posts as it is worldwide and no question is too small to ask! Such a caring bunch of people and now a GAME ARCADE TOO!!!

Hey all...thanks for all of the welcomes and responses. I am trying to start out real simple in terms of marine life. I am thinking of starting with a few chromis and a few sand sifting critters to help keep the sand turned over and a bit cleaner. I don't want to invest a lot on fish right from the get go. I want to make sure that I am doing things right before I get into the more expensive fish. I do know that I want a clown for sure and a few other fish. I have a huge list of things I want and I am currently talking with a local shop owner to help me narrow it down once I am comfortable with what I am doing. Ok...that was a long post...I look forward to hearing from all of you.

Have you looked at BB ( bare bottom ie no sand ) Agsansoo has just removed all the crushed coral from his, and it looks great. Take a look

I have a bare bottom now !
