| | Fish Lore Newbie | Hi everyone,
I'm in chilly CT. Just set up my tank in Oct last year and am getting so much enjoyment from it. I have had some casualties and had to "toughen up" a little to get some experience under my belt. I have read a lot of different info on the net and printouts at pet stores and am learning every day. I would always appreciate and happily take any advice from any of you. I have a tropical 30 gal tank with all communal fish, guppies, swordtails, mollies, platys, a neon tetra and a couple of other species of tetras. I just lost my dwarf african frog and am very upset about that. I only had him for 2 weeks and he was a real cutie. I am reading about the ADFs and they seem to be a bit high maintenance so I think I will stay away from them for awhile.
Thank you all and look forward to any replys. |

| | Moderator | Hi Patty, Welcome!
Sorry to hear about you ADF . They're lots of fun. Perhaps one day you'll try again. Maybe you'd have better luck in a species only tank.
We're glad you're here. |

| | Fish Lore Newbie | Thanks for your welcome! From what I have been reading I do think you're right about the ADFs tank by themselves.......I am sure that will be in my future. Thanks again. |

| | Fish Lore Newbie | Thanks I'm new to the fish world. I don't know much but fish live in water. I like my new tank. It's a 55 gallon tank. I have a Red belly Pacu, Jack dempsey and Oscar. My Pacu is about 12 inches so that put me in the market for a new tank. If anyone could give me some advice it would helpful. |

| | Fish Helper | I've post a few times here, so I figured I'd introduce myself. I live in Seattle, with two cats and 6 neon tetras. I had fish growing up (guppies, barbs, goldfish, gouramis, betas- not all at the same time, or in the same tank!), but there was definitely a lot I didn't understand at the time. I decided to get a 10 gallon aquarium a couple of months ago to take the place of my t.v. in the livingroom (I have to say, the fish are *way* more entertaining!). Now that I understand a lot more about the nitrogen cycle, etc., I feel a bit guilty about those childhood fish, but I'm trying the best I can to treat my neon tetras better (and those future fish, when I get another tank...).
I work in stormwater treatment, erosion control, and water quality, so keeping an aquarium has sort of been an interesting extension of that. I also spent a few years as a tropical plant maintenance technician and still keep a few plants that can survive in my apartment. Aquarium-keeping and tropical-plant-keeping are more similar than I expected in terms of the sort of thinking one needs to adopt to be successful.
Anyway, this has been a bit lengthy... just want to add I've really enjoyed reading about everyone's aquariums. The photos have showed me how much I have to learn! |

| | Fish Helper | I suppose I should have done this first off.
Well, I'm Jess and I love animals, photography, painting, guitar, metal music, origami, beaching, snorkeling, trivia games and last but not least, my fiance' Ray. My family is very dear to me and I consider my pets my family.
I live in the Bahamas where my family goes back to the late 1700's. Her name was Wyannie Malone and she was a Loyalist from the Carolinas. Just a little history for you there.
It's very warming to know that there is help out there and this site is exactly that. I'm very happy to have found this place and all of you that I've met are very kind.
Sorry this is so long. |
