Hello... I'm new here.

I found this forum about a week ago, and have been having fun reading through all the posts.

My name is Julie, I live in San Diego, CA, with my husband Tim, three kids (all teenagers), two dogs, two cats, two red eared sliders (turtles- they are 26 years old!), 85 gallon aquarium, and my daughter's 10 gallon aquarium.

I just read the Poll about how old people are. I'm old! Thanks a lot!

I've had an aquarium or two or more since I was about 14 (so, if you really want to know, that was 31 years ago. You do the math!).

I actually put myself through college working at a pet/fish store. And have had many tanks with many varieties of fish.

Currently, the 85 which has been set up for seven or eight years, contains one 6+ inch clown loach, two 1.5 inch clown loaches, a 3 inch red tailed shark, six white cloud minnows, five long finned rosy barbs, three four inch bala sharks, a panda cory, and two African dwarf frogs. Oh, and a big marble angel. And a plecostomous- purchased as a common, but I don't think it is. It's browner and has more distinct yellowish spots, and seems a bit stouter than a common. It's about 3.5 inches.

Under gravel filter, Aquaclear 300.

By the standards that I've been reading about here, I like to keep my tank pretty crowded. But everybody gets a long fine, and water tests perfectly. 20% water change every Saturday morning.

And don't worry about the bala sharks and loaches out growing the tank. The plan is for a much larger tank (150-200 gallons) before too long. The real advantage of being OLD- more money and you can spend it the way you want!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Julie

Re: Hello... I'm new here.

Hey there Julie! I'm Aaron living in Bullhead City, Arizona. No, its not another world, but, it seems like it. I'm a newbie. I haven't even had my first tank yet. I can't even remember how I found this forum, but, I've been reading every minute I have on this site and am crossing my fingers on winning an eBay auction for my first tank. I'm wanting saltwater, but, still don't know what I'll have in there.

Re: Hello... I'm new here.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

And Aaron, you are really lucky to have this forum (and the internet in general) as you get started in this addictive hobby. Be sure to let us know if you get the tank and how you decide to stock it.

Re: Hello... I'm new here.

Oh, most deffinitely Jeme. I have five more days to wait to see it I win it. I'm nervous! lol As for what I stock it with.... I'm having enough hair pulling figuring out filters and live rock. I havent even gotten to sand/substrate, sump and refugium. If I throw in species right now (though their nice to look for) I'll have a heart attack ahahahahaha

Hello Julie
welcome to fishlore.. its a great community of fishkeepers. Sounds like you have a lot of experience in fishkeeping and a love for it. Your tank sounds wonderful. We enjoy looking at photos here, so when you get the chance, we would love to see photos of your tank set up.
