Why not only females? I was wondering. Only males is really often what's recommended. Is it because they're often more beautiful?

females can come home already pregnant so you can end up with fry (that's what happened to us & other members here). Males are also about 1/2" smaller typically so more can fit in a tank.

Aaaaaaah. I see. Am asking as I am contemplating males and females in a separate tank each.

yea, you know how the livebearers are and the pet shops cram a bunch of livebearers old enough to mate of both sexes in a little tank. it's amazing that any females come home not preggo!

Wish i could come fish shopping with you!! But if you read my posts in the BETTA fish part (best not)........i'd come home with my 4th Betta and you would come home with fish plus your second tank ' to start one day in the future when the first is established'!!!MTS

male fish are also more likely to lie on their backs, watch football and let out air bubbles during the match.
