intoducing myself

After having read some of the posts here, I thought maybe I should introduce myself and explain how I got into the fish "experience". I am an elementary school teacher in beautiful Alberta, Canada. I got into fish by accident really. I was teaching a grade 6 class and wanted a class pet. I started out with stick insects, but soon found out they were illegal in Alberta. I gave them away and got a betta, which soon died. (Again, a Walmart fish). The kids had loved the fish, so I bought a 10 gallon tank, and a few fish and was on my way. My job ended in June, so I brought the tank home, which was when the mollies started breeding. My sister kindly gave me a 20 gallon, which is home to all my mollies and my two red platies. I have had various fish, which have all since died. I had two beautiful leopard danios, who died within days of each other. I am not new to aquariums; when I was younger, my dad was into fish big time. I just thought I would explain why I am not a "real" fish person; I do enjoy the fish, and so does my cat, but it is not a passion for me - just a hobby. Anyways, they are all healthy for now, and enjoying life.

Welcome to Fishlore! You should get some guppies for next school year to teach those kids about the consequences of unprotected sex.
