water care

Im looking for answers to poor water issues that i have just experienced. Water was fine a weekago but then the ammonia and nitrite leves rose to stress levels as my test kit tells me its an API water test kit for nitrates, nitrites, high pH and ammonia. did a water change a dayago an nitrites an ammonia levels are still high any help would be awsome

I can tell you how to catch saltwater fish, but not how to take care of them. Someone else will be by.

Water level still a lil rough but getting better after 3rd water change. more LR added to the tank to help with filtration. Also went out an bought a cycle booster by TLC a women at my LFS said it would work and adding more LR. Question about how much LR would a 30 gal need?

Did something died in your tank recently? Usually when things die they release nitrates, phosphates, and ammonia. I suggest you get a skimmer to remove all of that

hope this helps

You should have 30 lb. or over of LR

The way skimmer works is that It sucks water through a pump. There will be an airline tubing (depending on skimmer type) that goes outside the tank that sucks the air which mass amount of bubbles appear. Bubbles are pockets of air and air has a density lower than water so it goes up and while it goes up it carries all the nutrients and other stuff into a cup.

Hello ! Sorry I haven't been around lately.
High ammonia is from not enough good bacteria in your tank. Usually from not enough bio-filtration, i.e live sand, live rock or bio-balls. Some times it from a die-off from adding live rock that isn't cured yet. Or over feeding, because your live rock (bio-filter) can't keep up to the demand. The cycle booster should help. Bio Spira is real good too !

What are your exact water parameters ?
ammonia, nitrites, nitrates ?
What are you using for water flow ? Powerheads ?
