water change?

i havnt performed any water changes yet because my tank is still cycling, but i was wondering, being that you have to let the newly mixed water settle for a day before you add it to the tank, are you supposed to put a heater in the bucket with the newly mixed water? wouldnt it be bad being that the water will get colder throughout the day and then adding that cold water to your tank harm the fish?

There is no need to let water sit. That particular habit is from the days when cities added chlorine to water supplies to make the water safe to drink. The chlorine would evaporate in around 24 hours, so you had to let the water sit to make it safe for the fish.
Now, however, cities usually use chloramine, which doesn't evaporate. That's why we use water conditioner, it neutralizes the chloramine, and a good conditioner will also detoxify heavy metals and a few other chemical problems.

Newly mixed salt water should be aged a day or two, chlorine/chloramine aside as that is a different issue. Yes, you should put a heater in the bucket while it is sitting to ensure you have a stable temperature when you add it to the tank.

Woops, sorry, I missed that this was in the saltwater section.
I check for new posts by the "New Post" button, rather than by section, and I sometimes miss things like this.

Ignore my post, then.
