What to do while waiting for AmQuel Plus

My order from F&S won't be here prob til Wed/Thursday. Meanwhile, I am wondering if I should go ahead and do the TriSulfa treatment, or just leave Neptune as he is now.

Water parameters all checked out at 0ppm this morning .

There have been no meds in there since Wed,when I did 25% water changes ( that was the last time) and also put in a new carbon filter. Tests on water have all been 0ppm ( what is that about?).

Water is crystal clear. I can't really tell if Neptune's condition is changed at all, or just the same as last pics.

I am kinda leaning towards medicating him. Mike/Phlox/Nat/CherryRose/Rose/others are you out there? I am sure if I just made my own decsion it would be empowering...LOL!

I'll let you all know in an hour if I haven't heard from anyone and have to decide...LOL

Re: What to do while waiting for AmQuel Plus

I would start medicating and keep an eye on the ammonia levels. You don't even need to do a water change when adding AmQuel. You can just dip out a few cups of water and add a little AmQuel+ to the water in the cup to dilute it and pour it in the tank. It will immediately detoxify any ammonia and nitrites that are there.
If your ammonia levels rise too much before you get the AmQuel you may need to do a water change and replace any lost meds. Make sure you do about 30% water change before adding meds and hopefully you should be okay for a few days.

Re: What to do while waiting for AmQuel Plus

Well I took the plunge on my own and did a 25% water change, removed carbon and medicated with TriSulfa as per Mike's formula. Kinda funny, because when I poured in the meds, there were sort of "slicks" of it on the surface of the water, and doesn't Neptune swim up to surface and suck them in - well, that's what it looked like!!! LOL So maybe he is fed up also and thinks the direct approach is best!!

My order has gone to F&S: AmQuel Plus; MarOxy; Maracyn TC; Maracyn and Maracyn 2........( and a new anemone, and a new plant) - what can I say/ REtail therapy, no matter who it is for seems to calm me - lol. ( Beside I always feel good when I rearrange my furniture - maybe it will work for Neptune).

Til then, if the water is testing negative all around, I think I will do H20 change maybe every second day, medicate every day as per instructions. ( Unless someone thinks that is not right??) this time I will remember to replace meds I lose with the water change.

Oh yes, my husband is in the city for the week and will look for Bio Spira or TurboStart....then I would have it all!!

Oh and making the decsion myself ( well, with help from Phlox - wasn't so empowering after all) Lol

In my experience, your betta should be plenty fine until Wednesday/Thursday without another water change. I would just treat the tank with trisulfa daily as per instructions and then treat it with the Amquel+ as soon as it comes in the mail.

I'm glad that you decided to medicate Neptune while waiting. At least he will not get any worse and could improve, as I'm sure he will. Wednesday/Thursday will be here before you know it, just hang in there.

Thanks for the support - hopefully all this medicating won't be so scary in a while, then I can give back to those who are so generous with their time; advice and good wishes.

Re: What to do while waiting for AmQuel Plus

It's tougher on us Betta parents sometimes than our Bettas when trying to knock out this stuff i think - they're strong, tough little fighters. Just keep up taking care of him like you are - he might not like having a health problem, but he's happy to have you spoiling & loving him. He'll pull through and get over this. I know it'd be great if it could just be instant, but it'll happen soon and we'll all be happy to see Neptune over this.
