Stress Coat Question

Just had a quick question about stress coat I couldn't find elsewhere on the forum. How long after adding the Stress Coat to my water change water can the water then be added safely to the tank?

Does it remove or bind the chlorine and chloramine immediately or should I let the bucket sit for a period of time? If so, how long do you let your water sit?

Just worried about hurting my fish and/or bacteria. Thanks for any help or tips!

Cheers,
Bill

you can add stress coat to the tank then add water immediatly.

people let the water stand for 24 hours because doing so removes chlorine.

when you set up a new tank you don't even need to add stress coat or any chlorine/chloramine remover because they are both removed as the water moves - which means by the time a tank has cycled it has no chlorine or chloramine in the water

Hi Forde..Stress coat is instant. When you add it to the bucket of water it will work immediately and you can add it to your tank immediately. That's what I do too.

Some of this info is incorrect.
Although you can add it directly to the tank, it's best if you add it to the new water before putting in your tank.

Chlorine will dissipate over 24 hours, however chloramines can take up to a month to dissipate.

Chlorine and chloramines are not removed by water movement. In fact it will hinder cycling because chlorine can kill bacteria.

Killing the bacteria is what I am worried about. What I am doing now is:

1 - Putting my new water in my water change bucket.

2 - Adding Stress Coat in the amount for the entire aquarium for chlorine and chloromine removal.

3 - Removing the water from the tank

4 - Adding the new treated water.

All together maybe about 10 - 15 minutes from the time I poor the water from the tap and add the conditioner to when I add it to the tank. I am pretty new at this and just want to protect my bacteria city.

That's perfect. Just make sure the new conditioned water is about the same temp as your tank water.
