Nite-Out II by Ecological labs

Has anybody tried this stuff? My LFS recommended it to me. Description sounds very similar to SafeStart.

I haven't tried it, but looking at the product description at DFS, I wouldn't count on it.

In general, any bacterial supplement that needs to be re-added after each water change is not going to be effective in the long run. If it truly cycled the tank or helped the tank cycle, reapplication wouldn't be necessary.

I don't know if it's the case with this particular product or not, but several of the available "apply at every water change" supplements require that because the bacteria provided is terrestrial rather than aquatic, and dies off after a week or so.

Here is what the Drs. Fosters and Smith has to say about it:

Select strains of nitrosomonas, nitrobacter, and nitrospira eliminate ammonia and nitrite. This specialized bacterial additive rapidly breaks down nitrogen compounds. Establishes and maintains the necessary bacterial populations required to efficiently process toxic ammonia to nitrite and then to nitrate.
Nite-Out II™ acts within a day or two to lower ammonia nitrogen and nitrite nitrogen levels naturally. Specially formulated to eliminate ammonia via a natural biologic process. Nite-Out II™ is a liquid nitrifying bacteria additive that contains select strains of nitrosomonas, nitrobacter, and nitrospira. Nitrosomonas convert ammonia to nitrite while nitrospira and nitrobacter convert nitrite to nitrate, thus making the ammonia less toxic to your fish and other aquarium inhabitants. The microorganisms contained in Nite-Out II™ are able to use carbon dioxide as the sole source of carbon, and are slow-growing. Treats up to 960 gallons.

I bolded and italicized the part that made the product sound more like SafeStart than cycle. I sent the company an email to confirm. I wish somebody local would just sell SafeStart so I could be done with it.

they ALL say that..even cycle and stress zyme do too...BUT...ANYTHING you have to add more than the one time(as mathas said), cant be self sustaining IMO ....but everyone has an opinion

Here is the response I got from the company:

The Microbe-Lift/Nite-Out II is live bacteria similar to those in Bio Spira and Safe Start.
Microbe-Lift/Nite-Out II contains 3 different nitrifying bacteria: Nitrosomonas, Nitrobacter and Nitrospira.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions please contact me.

I will update if I see any results So far my nitrites are not dropping. But for $7 it seemed with a shot. I amy just break down and order some SafeStart online. I just can't figure out why no fish stores want to carry it. I know it has an expiration date but so does this stuff.
