Prime?

Hi all, as I have not posted for a bit I wish you all a Happy New Year!

Just a quick one about Prime (bet you couldnt guess that).

Is it Seachem who make it?

Is it worth me getting some?

I understand what it does with ammonia, what else does it do?

Would you add it to the tank when you put new fish in and the bio load changes?

I will look forward to replies.

Chris

Yes, Prime is manufactured by Seachem.

It is an absolute must to have. Besides detoxifying ammonia it also removes chloramines, chlorine and other heavy metals from your tap water when doing water changes and top ups.

Prime is wonderful! I've always used the cheapest dechlorinator you could buy with success. When we moved where we are now my fish started to die no matter what I did, even though all water parameters were perfect. I switched to prime a little over a year ago and have since had no problems. evidently something in the water was different and Prime took care of it.

You use prime when you add new water to the tank (water changes), and it's absolutely worth it! However, Stress Coat + (not regular stress coat, must have the +), does the same thing as does Amquel and a few other products, so it's really a personal preference. Whatever you buy, make sure that it says that it detoxifies ammonia, NOT locking it, otherwise it won't be available to your biological filter and will kill the cycle. Also look for getting rid of heavy metals, chlorine, and esp. chloramine.
