Ammonia and Prime question

I have a 20 gallon tank that has an ammonia of .5 it is just starting to cycle how much prime should I use? I also have a 5 gal that had a reading of 4.0 (no fish in this tank), again how much prime should I use.

dont use prime if you have no fish...it will lock up your ammonia and stall the cycle

i was told to use prime the 20 gal has 6 fish in it and no i can't move them with out causing overstock issues. The only thing in the 5 gallons is 2 ghost shrimp. Opal was the occupant of the tank before he died.

I have 3 cycled tank and I only have one that I can take water from. That is the 10 gallon. The 47 gallon is still reading high nitrates

you said u have no fish..I assumed they were empty..if you have any ammonia, you add prime daily with each water change...read the back to see the amounts per gallon ..

I ment no fish in the 5 gallons. There was a betta in the 5 gal, along with 5 ghost shrimp.

The 47 gal has been running borderline high nitrates so I don't want to take water from it other wise I would use this tank to help speed up the cycle. The 10 gal is the only steady tank. How much water form it should I add to the 20 gal or should I try adding some of the media?

Media would be a better idea, it will help seed your tank faster than water from another tank will.

Also ghost shrimp dont really go well with bettas... when they molt your betta will find them tasty.

well they have been fine with both bettas. The one was old and has since died. There are two in with the other one along with several other fish.
