You should do a 50% water change, yes. Test the water before and after. If ammonia/Nitrites are still present before or after, be prepared to do water changes daily until the tank actually cycles. That is what I am going through. Booo.

I used Bio Spira and I'm going thru the same thing as tzqng8 (who used Safe Start) in my 5 gallon betta tank. I don't have any ammonia showing up, but I have nitrites present. So until the nitrites disappear it's daily 50% water changes.
