If you were cycling without fish, which is the best way so that you do not stress your fish during a cycle, then you would not have to do any water changes til the tank cycles. At that point you would do a water change to get the nitrates down and then add fish.
Since you are trying to cycle your tank with fish, you will have to do daily water changes to keep the
ammonia and
nitrite levels down and spare your fish in the tank any toxins that are present. It makes the cycle process slower, but necessary under these conditions.
Have you picked up an
API master freshwater
test kit yet? Once you do, you will be able to keep track of the readings and know when the cycle is complete.
