When putting prime/aquasafe/etc in..

.. how long do you let it sit in the bucket of water before placing it in the tank. I've switched from dosing the whole tank each water change to just dosing each bucket of water when I add it in. It doesn't say anywhere on any of the bottles how long to wait before adding the water to the tank, once you have treated it.

It's instant, from what I've heard. I put the conditioner in while I'm filling the bucket, so that the water flow stirs it up. By the time you get it to your tank, it should have worked.

You've made me curious, now. I think I'm going to pick up some chlorine test strips from work and perform a little experiment on this. A bucketfull of water, a little bleach, the dechlorinator, then test.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, because I still smelt chlorine in the bucket after letting it sit there for 5 minutes.

I put the drops of Prime & NovAqua+ in the gallon jugs then fill them up. I then add the water to the tank & never have smelled chlorine or anything.

I've got a bottle of Right Start by Jungle, the label says it works immediately.

I've been using the Fresh Start by API, and although it doesn't say, I put it in my new water and add it to the tank right away. I haven't had any problems with it.

It's possible that you've got a higher concentration of chlorine in your water supply, too. The dosing on the conditioners is listed for a certain concentration. If your municipal supply has more, you might have to do a higher dose.
Some hardware stores are now selling home water test kits. They give you a PPM reading on chlorine content (among other things), you might want to check the concentration.

that's why i like to use a conditioner that you can safely increase the dosage of. (Novaqua) i never even measure, i just pour some in the tank when i'm doing a water change.

I have always wondered this too. I usually stir it and then let it sit 5-10 mins because it feels safer, but I have put the water in almost immediately and my fish were fine.

That's part of why we use the 2 water conditioners. To be safe about chlorine and I've found that using the Prime & NovAqua+ together seems to really help out the tanks.
