Making a water change

When I do my weekly water change what should I do to the new water I am adding to the tank. Does it need to be de-chlorinated? What is the best method. Thanks

Re: Making a water change

It needs to be dechlorinated and about the same temperature as the tank your putting it into.

Re: Making a water change

All that Carol has said, plus gravel vacs. What I mean is that it is best to vacuum the gravel with each water change. You perform this with a simple siphon tube (available at any fish store and cheap). When fish wastes fall to the bottom of the tank, they are trapped within or under the gravel. If they're not removed, they start to rot and make your nitrate high. High nitrate is dangerous to fish. This is why it is best to perform gravel vacs with your regular water changes. Good luck
