Water Change

Need some imput, How do you all do a water change to a 55 gal. tank. Getting the water out no problem, But how is the best way to get it back in !! Right now Iam using a bucket ,fill it an put the drops in it then pour it in the tank. Then fill it again add drops go from kitchen to living room an pour. Is there a BETTER way than this !!!!!! Thats a lot of buckets.
Thanks ShopDave52

Re: Water Change

Hi Dave,

I also have a 55 gal. & do it the same way that you do. The only exception is that I put in all the water conditioner I'm going to use in the first pitcher of water. While it's in the tank it works for all the other pitchers of water I end up adding.

I hope to be getting a python soon. It's a hose contraption that hooks up to your water faucet. It drains & then fills your tank back up. It doesn't fit all faucets, but you can buy an attachment to make it fit yours. There is also DIY info. if you want to make your own from parts. Also water bed filling kits are supposed to be either the same thing or similar. I've heard these pythons are in certain pet stores & even the occasional Wal-Mart. You can look all this up on the net... Good luck!

Re: Water Change

I have heard of people filling their tank back up with a hose, like from the backyard faucet. The only two things I would worry about there would be the temp. of the water & any urethane gas.

Somehow you would have to be sure the water is the same temp. as your tank. And as I understand it, in warm weather hoses give off a urethane gas for* about the first minute after you turn the faucet on. That's why if you ever drink out of a hose, let it run for a minute first. To be safe, in any weather, I would let the hose run for a minute before drinking or using the water for a fish tank.

All this is just hearsay, so maybe somebody else will come on here & comment on or correct anything I've said. If they don't, I would start a new thread asking especially about filling a tank with a hose.

PS I just checked search on this site & typed in filling with a hose. You may want to go there & read what some have said. You could also type in different words & see what you come up with.
