salt in water

How can I determine how much salt I have in my water. I keep a certain amount in my fresh water tank but with water changes and evaporation I am not sure how much salt is in my water.

There's test kits for that. I'm sorry, I don't know the name of it.
Someone else will be able to tell you what it is.

Be very careful of salt, I'm not sure all of the fish in your tank can tolerate it.

Edit: Possibly called a hydrometer (?) Not sure.

a hydrometer or refractometer, but im not sure if it will pick up that amount of salt

salt in tank

I have a hydrometer but as was stated, it doesn't measure that small amount of salt. And as for salt in a freshwater tank, is it good, bad or indifferent. I have researched it and get no definitive answer. I put it in my tank because many people say it helps the fish.

hmm, yeah from your aquarium info your cories and angels in particular will be very sensitive to salt, the cories especially since they don't have scales. the rams are sensitive too, what kind do you have?

actually I had a rainbow ram but lost him about a week ago. Tonight I did about a 30% water change. My corys seem very happy and are growing.

I don't know. He was fine and then one day he was not moving around and breathing very rapidly. Next day he was dead.

I keep fresh water aquarium salt in my 155g. My fish stock is listed below. I use a hydrometer to determine the amount of salt in my tank and I keep it at 1.000. The amount and directions for adding salt are listed on the box. The only other additives I use are Nova Aqua, Amquel, and Immune Plus. My tank has been disease free for 8 years.

My water has really high GH and KH right out of the tap so I don't see a reason to add salt. I only have some right now b/c I'm treating a fish and it was part of the treatment that was recommended.
