What is an easy way to do a proper water change?

What i've beend oing is syphoning out the water into a pail using a gravel vaccum which i then pour out. i then filled up a gallon jug with water from the tap that was at the right temperature, adding some conditioner, waited and then poured it in. i had to do this 5 times in order to fill the tank from the 50% water change. obviously this is quite a pain. that is just for my 10 gallon tank, i'm switching to a 55 gal soon and even for a 20% water change filling up the galon jugg 11 times and conditioning it each time is going to be even more of a pain! what is the easiest way to do this?

Get a big 5 gallon bucket, it makes things much easier. I take it you emptyed half the water first then re-filled, not 1 jug out-one jug in?

I have a large 10 gallon bucket that I use for my 55 gal.
Cuts the time in half.

Where is your tank located? If its anywhere downstairs and is in a room closest to a faucet you can buy a python (siphoning hose). It connects to the faucet and sucks out water. then you press the switch and fill the tank up with warm water directly from the faucet. Very quick, easy and simple

The tank is actually in my room but it is right down the hall from the bath room (about 20 feet from the sink) the thing is don't you have to condition the water before putting it in the tank? how do you condition it if you are pouring it straight into the tank?

yeah or if you have a 10 gallon bucket. you can put the conditioner in that and fill it up with the python. Make sure to have someone that can turn off the faucet. dont want to make your floor into driftwood

Get ya a python! Those things are great! I have a 50 footer that goes through my whole area w/ tanks and I can change the water in no time, when you put the water back in just put the conditioner in the tank. This is how I change all of my FW tanks. My SW isn't so easy on waterchanges b/c the need for the water to be mixed w/ salt first.

Since we moved to this house I could not fit the python on the faucet. I had to sell it. then I saw in the DF&S that they had a piece that would fit on the faucet for it to work. I kicked myself in the butt 100 times. It dont matter now since my tanks are upstairs and the faucet is downstairs in the kitchen,
