How much?

Hey all. I have a 29 gallon. All parameters are perfect. The only thing I'm worried about is nitrates. I'm a bit on the over stocked side, but still my nitrates are around 20...never higher. I do weekly water changes of 5 gallons. My question is can I do a water change every other day to get the nitrates down even further? Or should I still do once a week, but just change more than 5 gallons. I was thinking of increasing it to 10 gallons. What do you guys think?

You can do a couple of daily changes to get the nitrates down. Once you get them where you want them just increase the amount of water you change weekly to maintain it.
But really 20 isn't too bad.

Yeah...I didn't think so...especially since I'm over stocked haha. All my fish are happy and healthy.

20 isn't a bad number... If it gets higher, like to 40 I'd be worried about it but it should be good.

If you want to lower them, I'd do more frequent ones rather than a larger one.

I want them to be as low as possible. I think I'm going to do daily water changes for a few days and see how it goes.

I am guessing that the nitrite level is a little too high.

You can do daily water changes, like when I had salt poisoning in my 29 gallon community/semi-aggressive tank, I've had too high pH, and a lot of things went wrong.

So then I did about 3 water changes daily.

If you have nitrite like that, I suggest that you get a britta filter. It usually removes all the toxic remainants in your tank..
