water change w/ python

If you're doing a water change with your python, after you've already got the right amount of water out that you want out, how do you put it back in? I mean, I realize that the python can just be switched from sucking water up to putting water back in, but shouldn't your water be conditioned before you put it in your tank? Or is it okay to put all the new water in and then put conditioner in?

I think I read on here that you are supposed to put the conditioner in the tank immeadiatly before adding the water. Hopefully one of the Python users will chime in.

BTW welcome to Fishlore.

Put the conditioner into the stream of water going back into the tank. I use a home made python type water changer and thats what I do. The dechlor acts immediately. i try to not spray the water on my fish straight from the hose end, I have done with out any bad results but I'm paranoid

Like others, I treat my water with 2x the required dose of Prime before I start to refill. Also, the Python aerates the water going back into the tank which supposedly removes most of the chlorine and chloramine. That said, I would always still use a dechlorinator as it is cheap insurance for your fish.

Aeration does not remove chloramine.
The bond must be chemically broken with a dechlorator.

when i do water changes, i use empty water containers that hold 11L and i just put the water cond. into the flow of water as i am filling up the container. I'm assuming this is okay but I just wanted to make sure...

If you are filling containers and then pouring the containers into the tank, why not just wait until the container is filled, put in the water conditioner then pour the container into the tank, rather then pouring into the water flow?

yeah that is what i'm doing. I add it to the flow of the water as it enters the container so it spreads out. i dont know if it makes any difference but thats what i do.

You can just put it in the container after it is full. It does not need to be in the flow.
