Ohmygod! Frustrated/concerned

Okay so.
My sister decided she could take care of her own Betta, so i bought her one.
He was a GORGEOUS fish - all BRIGHT pink, with purple stripes spreading up his fins. I loved him.
She couldn't afford much, so she bought him a tiny one gallon tank. ARGH.
He was WAYYYY to pretty to be couped up in that thing.

But anyway,
First problem:
I go into her room to just check on this beauty and check his water (she named him CC, because she likes girls names.)
So i looked at him.
and noticed immediatly that he had fin and tail rot.
Mostly tail.
I went out and bought BettaFix for him, and it stopped it. But the poor little guy only has about 1/3 of his tail left.
It's getting better, but slowly.

Second problem:
I went in her room again, this time today. (When i noticed the rot it was about a month ago) And about two weeks ago she told me she learned how to check water and wanted to do it herself. So I checked his water today, just in case, and his ammonia level was THROUGH THE ROOF. I mean like, 4.0. Not kidding. I got so scared for him, i went out and bought him (I donthave much money, so i got what i could afford) a three gallon, and changed his water.

He seems to be doing okay now, but im still conceren for him.

ARGGHHHHHHH.

Thanks for listening.

4.0 I would have freaked! Poor CC.
It's a good thing you knew what to do.

lol, I know you know the drill, daily water changes, keep him warm and comfy, does he have a heater?

Good luck, with a sister like you, at least he has a chance.

In a pinch, I used a reptile heating pad. When I brought Prissy home I had to put her in a bowl for a couple of days.
I've also heard of people using lamps. If you do that, keep a close eye on the temperature.

yeah, i've heard of that too.
I think my best bet is to stick with a heater though,
cause you cant keep lamps on all day.

No I ment I keep lamps on all day, thats cause I'm a irresponsible teenager who doesnt have anything better to do than leave lamps on.

Leaving on a lamp for heat isn't a good idea the temperature will vary to much to fast in a gallon bowl and will stress the fish even more. BTW I found the gallon bowls at walmart is about 3 dollars less than a LFS 2.5 gallon tank.
