Aquarium Salt Question

I was just wondering if you desolve the aquarium salt before putting it in your tank, or if you just dump it in.

Thanks!

If you choose to use aquarium salt it has to be dissolved and diluted before putting into your tank. Salt that is too strong can burn your fish if it is poured on them in too strong a mixture.

if you just replace the amount youve taken it out doesnt it not matter liek say you took out about 5 gallons, and you put in a dossage for 5 gallons,

yep but that dosage needs to mixed in a large amount of water and dissolved well, not just put in dry and dissolved in the aquarium, or mixed in a few ounces of water then put in the aquarium.

Like Butterfly said, direct contact with salt that hasn't dissolved can be harmful (even fatal) to fish. It's best to mix it in as you are doing a water change. For example, in my 30g brackish, I do water changes 5g at a time. I pull 5g of water out and empty the bucket. Then I put the dosage of salt (one tablespoon for this tank) in the bucket and put the water in. Filling the bucket mixes most of the salt in, and I stir it to make sure.

If you're doing a saltwater tank, the process is entirely different, as you need to match the salinity, and the amount of salt involved takes more convincing to get it mixed in.
