Tap water shows Nitrites

Hi, my tap water straight from the tap mesures Nitrites almost 0.3! What should I do? The tank has cycled a couple of weeks ago, and nitrites were 0, after todays water change they got between 0 and 0.1!

you could buy some incredibly expensive equipment...or just do frequent but small water changes.

do maybe just 5% every day. possibly do a larger one (15-50%) once per week where you vacuum the gravel.

Thanks, I asked in the aquarium shop today - the guy said to leave water to stand for a few days. Is he right - I know chlorine would evaporate, but nitrites?

i don't think nitrites are unstable enough to dissolve on their own. I think you just have to to condition your tanks bio-filter to deal with the nitrites.

Thats why I say change the water every day. If suppose it may eventually be cheaper, or easier, to get a revers osmosis unit or something.

You can pick up a RO unit at Home Depot/Lowes for under $200...very easy to install...if you take into account the quality water for your fish, the health benefits for your family, and (if your like me) you'll safe a small fortune on coffee makers...LOL...in the long run...it will pay for itself in no time.
