I have gotten fearsome that the nitrates, nitrites, etc will go up any and I have been doing 3 water changes a week... is this getting obsessive? or is this good fishkeeping? I only do one change a week for my guppies... I guess I will slow down (maybe) after I get rid of the piece of crap filter and get a biowheel w/ high output to go w/ my ehiem ecco.

The cichlid book that I read last swears by constant water changes and says the ideal cichlid tank would actually be a hole in the bottom w/ constant freashwater going in the top.... so I guess I have that going in my head....

Or should I do more changes?

Your tanks will stay healthy at 20 on nitrates. I like to do enough water changes to keep it down below 10, but that is just for my shrimp tanks.

In a cichlid tank you would probably have to change 3 times a week to keep nitrates below 20.
