What to add

Hey all. I use tap water for my top offs and water changes. I use a clean 5 gallon bucket with a powerhead and a heater to get the water going, and I also add a pH buffer, Amquel+, and Aquasafe by tetra. Do I need to add both the amquel and aquasafe, or can I just add one? I'm not sure what to do. Right now I'm adding all three...any help is appreciated!

If you input your tanks parameters in your settings under Aquarium information it will be easier to answer your questions. The answer depends on where your tank is in its cycle.

Also, DON'T use ph buffers. Even if it seems out of range for the fish you want to keep, they will adjust better to the natural ph you have in your water, than they will to ups and downs caused by messing with the ph.

I just run my water right in from the tap. I add hot & cold adjusted and tested with a thermometer until it is close to tank temp. If you have to use a product to take out chlorine, you can add it right to the tank at the time your water is going in. This is widely accepted, and cuts out lots of work with a bucket!

i agree dont go with a ph buffer i have amquel+ i dont use it very much. its made to be added to the tank water that you didnt take out not the new water since there normaly wont be any nitrites nitrates or amonias in the water. for the tap water you could you the aquanova+ which is made by kordon also but i dont really even use that amqueal very much

I only add the amquel because it also removes chlorine and chloramines...for some reason, I don't think adding straight tap water to my tank sounds good. I also add the pH buffer because the pH in my tank stays right around 7.0-7.2....tap water got tested at over 7.6.
