my po4 levels are to high and every thing else is perfect. i do weekly water changes and keep my plants pruned. i also have 4 mystery snails and corys to cleanup any eccses food. i am curently using a po4 controler in my filters, and am using double the filtration nesesary. i can't figure out where its coming from any sugestions?

Phosphate is in fish food and if you overfeed it can build up in the tank. What are your fish, tank size, and how much are you feeding? Do you have any plants?
Otherwise it's probably in your tap water.

You might check with your local water works too. They add phosphates to the water supply where I am.

You should be able to get something from your city stating the levels of various chemicals in your tap water.

i tested my tap water and got 1ppm of po4 but i also have a highlight plant tank. if you add more plants it will help take care of the excess po4

thank you for the replies. my tap water reads 0ppm after preping water for a water change it reads 0ppm there is10 plants in it i feed very little and only once a day. i'm afraid if i feed any less i will starve my fish. the only thing i can think of is mabey my driftwood but its been in there for years. i also vaccume my gravel weekly and do 25% water changes weekly.

Exactly how much do you feed? Could be your driftwood but I'm not sure if driftwood can leach phosphates or not...

drift wod only leaches tanic acid which can lower your ph. however if there are plants or animals in it that are still dying then they can add to your phosphate reading as well as your nitrate reading.
