| Yep, when mods close threads that have become non-productive, we almost always leave a post explaining why.
It's my opinion that the ability to close threads should be used very sparingly. Most threads are learning experiences for more than just the original poster, and closing them can limit this. After six months of inactivity, a thread will close itself. Only when very simple (usually "yes or no") threads are necro'd after three or four months or, as Aquarist said, when relatively pointless polls are kept active does it seem worthwhile to me. |
