Fish stores New York City area

Can anybody recommend any good fish stores in the surrounding area or in New York City? I know of some but I am always interested in finding new stores.

I can recommend two: New World Aquarium at 204E 38th St. It's located between 2nd and 3rd in Long Island. I found the owner and personnel well trained in the hobby. The only con I found is that they don't process phone/on-line orders. Expect prices to be as NY. Great selection of fish and plants. Lot of spare parts. I will go there when I return to NY.

Another nice store with lower prices yet great variety in fish and plants I visited. Need to find the receipt to give you the address. However I suggest you visit 38 Aquarium Inc. 371 Broome St (Little Italy).

Hope this helps

I have heard that store has a great reputation before. Another store worth checking out is Pacific Aquarium and Pet on Delancey Street between Eldridge Street and Forsyth Street. They got a wide variety of fish and lots of rare ones too. Don't let the outside fool you, the store goes back deep even though the front is about 15 feet wide. What do you mean New World Aquarium is in Long Island? That sounds like a Manhattan address.

The Pacific Aquarium and Pet is the other one I also recommend. I found the receipt and that's the store I brought home a bunch of plants I managed to bring home (don't tell Dominican Customs about it) as well as very nice and hardy air-check valves (without metallic parts, for use in CO2) and Hikari fish food.

Their prices are great (e.g. I paid 29.95 for a Crinum calamistratum there, same size plant had a price of 64.95 in the Long Island store).

Yea, that's the store I went to. The staff is very knowledgeable and actually talked me out of buying a certain plant because I told them I only have a standard fluorescent light. We also got a gold severum there for 6.99 (cheaper then petsmart).

I'm visiting New York in 2 weeks so might try and pop into one of these shops and find out how the Americans go about fishkeeping and see if I can pick up any tips to jazz up my tank
