7/23/2008 - Day 41
Sorry I've been away! Busy busy. Been dealing with the family situation back in Indiana and helping a friend design his pond. More on both of those below.
First, the fish. Everyone seems to be happy and healthy. I went ahead and installed the airpump and 24" of felxible wand into Mori's 5g Hex tank. It is situated under the gravel around the outside edges, about 75% around the tank. Mori still has the area at the top of the filter intake as a "soft" spot where he can hang out to get away from the filter current and bubbles. He used to sleep up there.
The bubbles are cool. Makes the tank look nice and it aerates the water better. The only issue I see is that in certain places the bubbles come out quite large. I think the air gets trapped under the gravel and then escape in larger bubbles of air. Doesn't seem to bother Mori as he swims right into them now though. Also, he stays lower in the tank now for longer periods of time. That was all of the evidence I needed to see to know that there is more disolved oxygen content in the water.
The 30g is still going without air. The package from DFS didn't come in on Friday. It is at the apt. office now, I just haven't went to pick it up yet. Will tonight and I'll get it all installed this weekend most likely. Oh, that reminds me. Donovan comes back for another 3 weeks this weekend! Woot! He hasn't got to see the fish yet (except for Mori, of course)! I'm stoked.
Neither tank has cycled yet. Still doing daily water changes and measuring parameters. We'll get there eventually. Just sad that the SafeStart didn't work. But, that is all water under the bridge.
Now, Grandpa. Well, he made it through surgery. They removed a pretty large mass but they still aren't 100% sure they got the entire tumor. They said that it was basically completely blocking his colon. Hopefully he can't start feeling a bit better now. Don't have a lot more details as I have been giving my Mom a chance to take care of him without bothering her. I'll call her this weekend and get an update.
And the pond. So, I've been doing all of my crazy research on ponds. Spending time at some of their forums, reading books, articles, and DIY stuff. Very interesting. A buddy of mine wants my help to build his pond and I figure it is great practice. Still working on all of that, but I thought I would post my design drafts in case anyone was interested. The pond won't be a perfect circle, but this is just for a default design that can then be modified. Everything is to scale on both drawings although the perspective on the second is way off.
