Happy Friday the 13th! Got my first fish tank yesterday! Woot! Bought a 30g w/ stand, heater, filter, and air pump(?) for $160. Delivered! Not a bad deal, I don’t think. Posted all of the info on Fishlore to try and get any tips anyone might have. Not sure if the filter, heater, and air pump are what I really want to keep. I think I’ll keep the air pump but replace the filter and the heater. The heater doesn’t seem to be fully submersible whereas the Visi-Therm Stealth Heater is. The filter seems to be old. A Tetra T2 Energizer. Couldn’t find any info on it when I Googled it. Also, the thermometer on the tank is a stick on one and I don’t want that. I found one I like online. I’ll take a trip to Wal-Mart this weekend and see if I can pick up most of the supplies. At this point, still planning on stocking the tank as such:

• 6 Bloodfin Tetra's (2 in) (Aphyocharax anisitsi)
• 6 Pristella Tetra's (2 in.) (Pristella maxillaris)
• 1 Swordtail fish (1 male) (5 in) (Xiphophorus helleri)

That’s 29 in of fish. I’ll try putting our male Beta in there as well, but I have a feeling that isn’t going to work. If not, he’ll get his own home.

Never heard of that filter... Check out the Fluval + series, they're quiet, easy to maintain, well just a really great filter!

I like your stock idea! Lots of activity. I think you should get a red Sword, that will be a nice centrepiece fish.
