fish ethics question...

So I have in my 65 tank currently...
5 congo tetras
an african knife
bristlenose pleco
common whiptail pleco (sold as a farlowella cat, but he's not)
veiltailed angel
and one otto cat... ok let me explain

My sister's little tank crashed and she had one otto cat that made it so she asked if I could take him. So I did and he is in with my betta and an african dwarf frog in my 10 gallon tank. So I had a algae/diatom problem in my 65 tank so I thought I would try a school of otto cats and move this guy over thier if they were happy. I had observed the african knife for several months before I bought him and he would not eat guppies (they multipled like crazy in his tank) so I thought it would be safe. They were fine, the knife didnt touch them. But they seemed to hate my tank. The stayed up in the top 5 inches all the time and wouldnt come down (it is 28 inches tall). So I netted them out and brought them back to the store but I couldnt catch one of them. He dove down and hid in my plants. So now I have one otto in my ten gallon and one in the 65 gallon. The one in the 65 is actually eating the algae and diatoms off the leaves of my plants now so I kinda dont want to take him out. What should I do... put the one in the 10 gallon in the 65? put the one in the 65 in the 10? or bring them both back (if I can catch the one in the 65 without tearing up my plants)? Or do like my boyfriend says and leave them both alone, thier fine

It's down to choice, if they are happy, then fine, leave them alone, if I wanted them together, I would put them in the bigger tank, whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be OK with the little fellas.

I'd move them to be together... Just because an animal is alive, it does not mean it's thriving!

Exactly, Hatchet.

I'd move them together into one of the tanks. I had a cory that, to all appearances, died of loneliness. Otos are similar, in that they really like having company.

On a side note, I wonder what they didn't like about the tank before you tried netting them out. That's just weird.

I dont know. They were just stayed at the top 5 inches of the tank constantly. Never came down for 2 weeks. I thought they looked miserable so I took them out. Maybe they were fine... I dont know, but the tank is alot deeper than any tank they had probably ever been in (at the aquaculture facility and the store) so I figure that was the problem. I've decided there is no getting the otto out of the 65. I tried again today. He's too quick and the tank is too deep. I will move the one from the 10 gallon over. Hopefully he'll be happy.

on a really random side note, what is that green dot under our names?

I thought so... I'm on totally different types of forums and they have those. It can get a little clicky though, but most forums inevitably get a little clicky so it doesnt really matter cool, thanks!

The forum is already a little clique-y. If we notice it happening too much, Mike'll just shut it back off.

cool so I moved them together. he is staying up top like the others but I just hung this piece of drift wood from the top so it is kinda like a root wad... hopefully that, more light, and the swords growing taller will connect the top and bottom more so he doesnt feel like he has to dive into dark waters to get to the yummy algae covering the crypt leaves. and he's only been in there for two days, I guess I could give him a few days to adjust
